| Tonight, I fed the squash raw. Some days I will steam it, others I won't. I like to change it up by alternating between raw and cooked vegetables. | |

| So...I need suggestions of flowers for him to grow :o)
For our first night on VGV, they didn't eat so well. I know that change can take a couple days, and I have been playing with new veggies, so I won't be discouraged yet!

| I got some fresh beets tonight. Do you just cut them up raw? I was looking for yucca root but they didn't have any. What about parsnip do they like it? | |

| Last night I decided to make up a new batch of staple mix since the girls won't eat the three I already had. This batch had the base ingredients, plus yogurt, vitamin E, some honey, alfalfa, a touch of carrot juice, and - since I had some left and they love it - about 1/2 T of the HPW Complete. It worked....they ate it!
The rest of dinner: frozen veggie mix (corn, green beans, carrots, peas), bok choy, cucumber; blueberries and kiwi with a bit of blueberry yogurt mixed in.
Tonight, the veggie mix will be the same, but with sweet potato and broccoli added in.
They aren't eating ALL their veggies, but they are eating some, and last night was the first night they actually ate the staple! Yay! I just needed to sweeten it up a bit :o)

You've obviously fed these already LOL but thought I'd answer anyway. I generally peel the beets, then just cut them up and feed raw. I also feed parsnips - they don't LOVE them but they eat them. They're very similar to carrots IMO. Tonight...we're having our staple mix, along with: parsnips broccoli slaw star fruit yucca root cucumber kiwi sweet potato brussel sprouts spinach And chicken. :)

| wow what a great topic! after reading through all 11 pages, i feel really bad for my girls, lol. theyve been on BML, which i know it a little more 'strict' about additional items.
last night they got their staple, grapes, blueberries, gala apple and veggie mix. a half of a teddy graham (split between the two!), some dried pineapple and a pine nut in tent time for foraging treats was the "excitement". oh, my poor babies!
i want to try a lot of the ideas here - quail egg still in the shell (hard boiled though, right?), suggie chicken soup, chicken salad...the baked chicken and veggies! oh man, so many good ideas! but, since my girls get BML, how often can I have a junk food night? once a week? or would it be ok to add one fun thing per night to their staple?
ive given them a boiled chicken leg or wing, and they really go to town on the marrow part. i admit though, i throw away most of the chicken! theres just something about the texture of raw chicken that really turns me off by the time its done cooking. i love it if someone else is preparing it though!

| When I make chicken for my gliders, I boil the legs, then take much of the chicken off, just leaving a bit on the bone. I put it in a baggie and freeze it to use another time.
Yes, you're restricted using BML, which is one of the biggest reasons I didn't and won't feed the diet. You know, WE like variety in our lives. We love to try new foods and I don't know about you, but I don't want to eat the same thing day in and day out. My feeling is that gliders should be no different - why shouldn't they be afforded the same things?
You can have junk food night - do it once a week - they might really enjoy it.

| You make very good points, Aimee - I cant even get myself to bring lunch to work because I never know what Im in the mood for until Im hungry, lol. And I work in an expensive city, so that means spending at least $10 per day on lunch, most days more!
My girls do love their BML though; I even get some happy noises when I feed it off my finger to them. Ill do the junk food night thing once a week, and see how that goes, but I might consider switching to a different diet in the future.
Side note, and kiiiiiiiinda OT - but as gliders get older, can their stomachs handle more "junk" food? like with kids, you wouldnt start an infant on baked chicken and really fatty/greasy foods, but as they get older, their bodies are able to process it better. are gliders the same? do you give your young gliders the same treats as older ones?

Tonight, we're substituting cantaloupe for the avocado.
Not too much variety - I need to hit the grocery store tomorrow.

Leeks are in the same family as onions, but so is asparagus, so I don't know if they can have it! I don't want to try- just in case.

We had: Goat Kumquats Choy Sum (like Bok Choy, but a flowering plant) Lemon Grass Lotus Root Opo Squash Starfruit (Okay, not Indian, but would be going bad soon) Goat Cheese Kefir And, I was being bad and gave them a sprinkling of Jaggery. It's a mix of sugar cane and the sugars from the Date palm tree. http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/seasonalcooking/farmtotable/visualguideasianproduceThe link above is if you want to know more about the fruits and veggies I fed last night- all found at the Indian Market.
