| Brenda, see if you can find Figs at your grocery store. They don't stay in season long. When they are ripe, they are slightly soft, not hard. Turn the container over though and make sure there is not goop on the bottom. They are yummy when mixed in with mango. (For the gliders I mean, though I've tried it too and it's still yummy. I just can't eat it because it looks nasty.)
Val has her own staple/diet. You can find it in the Glider Gourmet section under Val's Green Variety.

| Last night I fed a fruit smoothie made of papaya, banana, strawberry, blueberry and an organic "tropical applesauce" (it had apples, mango & pineapple in it). This morning, every plate is so clean that it looks like I forgot to feed any fruit last night. Guess I will make this one again some time. | |

| We had a big moving day today, so the gliders are getting some favorites for the night.
Tonight we are having:
Scrambled egg and veggie bake
Carrots, corn, peas, cucumber, jicama, bell pepper, green beans & baby spinach
apple, canteloupe, white peach, blueberry, black plum, strawberry and dried coconut
Mixed berry yogurt | |

| Tonights dinner is their regular stuff. But! Thursday night was junk food night, yum, yum! We had a bake for dinner. I put their fruits and veggies in a casserole dish, put chicken wings on top (when you have 24 gliders, it's a lot of wings!) and baked it until the skin was crispy. It made all the fruit and veggies soft and greasy from the chicken. The gliders LOVED it! No leftovers the next day.
The fruit was apples and pears. Veggies was broccoli, jicama, red pepper, carrots, squash and some of the mixed veggies.

| Huh. I'll have to try the scrambled egg and veggie bake - sounds good enough for ME to eat! Let's see, our meal last night consisted of watermelon, green beans, white peaches, orange sweet pepper, mushrooms, mango and yucca root with a few spinach leaves tossed in for good measure. :) | |

| On Friday nite we had junk food nite and made Davie's chicken salad. They LOVED it!
Val - I remember you said you served cactus before. I see like cactus paddles in the grocery store with the pokey things and everything. How do you serve those things? Cook them? Remove the pokey things? I'm really trying to venture out and feed more healthy and more varity!!

| MK - I cheat and buy my Nopales already chopped up and put in a bag for me. I think that I remember that Will (FutureChef) told us once how to prepare it. Let me see if I can find it. ETA - Here is a brief discussion about cactus: https://thesweetspot.forumotion.net/t474-cactusHe doesn't tell us how to remove the thorns. Here in my grocery store, the pads don't have the thorny parts on them. I'm useless. Tell you what, I will ask tomorrow at work how to remove it. I work with a lot of people who eat it regularly. | |

| i'm really surprised your store sells them with the thorns, i've never seen them sold like that. here we can find them two ways, they come pre-cut into slices, or whole.
mine done eat the outter skin its the inner gooeyness they love.
i last night was a simple meal night two different kinds of apple that i can't remember now, green grapes, sweet potato, prickly pear(which i am gonna stop buying for the year) baked chicken, a variety of squash i'd never heard of and also can't remember, and a frozen veggie mix.
and right now its treat time because they are still awake and i just got up for class

| I will have to look at it again...may not have had the thorns just bumps where they should have been - lol. So if that is the case, just wash it and cut it up raw and give to them?? | |

| Thanks! I'm going to try it. I watched a youtube video that had them scraping the thorns off with a knife (if they have thorns). | |

| We are doing "mush" tonight. It's just a mixture of everything I usually do and put in a blender. We did my guys' favorite last night- whole chicken wings and had a little problem. I know Val told me to separate the dishes, but she didn't tell me that they play "your food looks better than mine" and we had a little scuffle over 1 specific wing when there were 4 in there! At least they listen well when I sit there and "Tsssst" at them.
And, they LOVE raw venison with a pumpkin/calming herb glaze and a side of mixed fruits and veggies drizzled with Agave nectar.

| They are chowing down on bok choy, strawberries (America/Annie's favorite so far), agave nectar, and filet mignon cubes, along with the calming mixture. I am now separating the patriotic group for dinner time because Glenn/? (big daddy) likes to fight for food. You can tell because he is starting to get boobs! | |

| I FINALLY found a way to get the Patriot Gang to all eat in the same cage without trying to kill each other over their new food.
My secret?
Blending everything into a mush and then stuffing it in Kongs. They are working so hard for their food that even Glenn isn't trying to steal food. I put some mealies in the Kongs and then covered the end with their dinner.

It will be served with additional fresh veggies and apple, nectarine, grapple and clementines.
Yummmm. | |
