2011 SUGAR Group RRRoundup Information

The 2011 RRRoundup will be unlike any event previously - bigger and better than last year's even!

This year's event will take place in Amarillo, Tx AND in Ft. Pierce, FL!

That's right - we will host our gathering in TWO places at the same time and video conference them together. So, no matter which venue you attend, you will not miss any of the educational or informational events!

ADDITIONALLY - the gathering will be available for you to participate from home if you aren't able to attend. For a small fee, those who can't physically be at the event can participate from home as they will be given access to all the educational materials, live chat interface with the event and live viewing of all the speakers and demonstrations. There are even a few activities and door prizes planned ONLY for those participating from home.

With a focus on research and rescue needs, this gathering will put strong emphasis on data collection and research planning. We have been hard at work for many months planning this gathering and assure you that you will want to be a part of this event.


Details will be revealed as we are able to confirm them. But, we wanted to give you this information right now so you can begin or continue your plans to attend knowing all the options available to you. We will post hotel information, FAQ and other exciting details in the next few weeks.

If you missed the date announcement before, the event will take place on March 11 & 12, 2011. Hope to see you there!!!

Just when I thought I had almost all of my plans sorted out.. now I need to figure out which place I want to go to (I do so love Florida weather, but I want to see Val's rescues!) Who's going where? What's going on where? LOL All this waiting for further details makes me crazy.

This is the time of year that we make Brenda be a tease!

We PROMISE it will be tons of fun no matter which place you attend. At their core, both will be exactly the same (even serving the same food when able). And, all day Saturday (during the actual conference) they will be video conferenced together, so you won't miss anything.

I'll be in Texas for sure.
Now you Floridians know why it is that I'm coming to visit in January - got some details to work out in your part of the country.

Awe, teasings no fun! Brenda, you know you want to reveal all the secrets.....

I can get a significantly cheaper flight to Florida (I'm finding ones that are $150 cheaper than my cheapest flight option for Amarillo).. And..the flights only have one stop, and the entire duration of the flight/airport time would be significantly shorter.

But, with the Florida option I don't know if there's the option to come in the Tuesday (March 8) or Wednesday (9) and stay till Sunday (13). I do love Florida though...haven't been since I was 16.

Where I go will depend on where I can find a roommate for.

Hooray! I'm still going to Amarillo, but this is going to be a blast!

If I get to go I am going to TX.

Well, now I may be able to attend! My mom lives in Pompano Beach, and is always complaining that we never visit her. I can stay with her!!!

I'm probably coming down to Texas. I have family that I can visit too (even though Austin is not really that close to Amarillo...).
So, Sara, if you still want to go that way I can make the plans for both of us. I am also afraid to fly but I do it often enough that I am a pro at making the shortest least scary flight arraingments possible. You could drive to Rochester and hop a flight with me.

I'm likely going to fly out of Albany, just as I'll be having my boyfriend drop me off at the airport. Not sure if he'll be willing to drive down to Rochester, but I'll ask him about it. I've sort of psyched myself up for the flight, so I'm not quite as nervous. I've been googling statistics and all of that, and feel safe about it now.


I'll be going on a Wed, and staying at Val's for Wed night I think (if the okay still stands), but do you need a roommate at the hotel?

My plans have changed and I will be staying here in Florda. :( Maybe later we can take a tally of who is going to be where. TX verses FL.

Davie if I thought this though enough then I could have planned a 2 week vacation and drove down with the Camper.

Once we open registration, we will be sure to keep a list of registered attendees for both sites here for everyone to see. But, please do tell us if you are planning to go and where!

We have some goals in mind and I have issued a challenge to the SUGAR group staff for this year. They can only meet this challenge if YOU attend or participate from home. Please don't make the poor SUGAR group staff a bunch of losers.

Watching ticket places... flights for Amarillo have gone way, way up here. :/ From $500 to $900 through the airline I planned on flying with (Delta), and not much cheaper on other airlines!!! Crazy (and depressing).

If it doesn't go down, I won't be able to make it to the Texas location after all.

I am on the hunt for cheaper tickets...

On the other hand -- I can find tickets right now on Expedia to the Melbourne Airport in Florida? $260 total - roundtrip, for the same days, through Delta.

I had roomie plans for Amarillo, but for that much of a price difference? I may have to go to Florida. :(

Florida people -- What airport is closest to the hotel??
Would transportation to and from the airport be available, or would I need to rent a car?

Everyone -- Any ideas on where to find cheaper flights? I've checked just about every site I can think of and no luck. :/ I would still like to go to Texas, as I was planning to room with Carrie, and was really looking forward to seeing all of the lovely gliders at Val's, but that's not going to happen unless I can find cheaper rates.

Flight prices will come down after the holidays. Wait until mid January to start looking/pricing again. Until then, keep saving up. You will probably find that prices come down even lower than they were when you first started looking.

I'll hold off on the panic until mid-January then.

If worse comes to worse -- I can afford both the flight, and the hotel, in Florida on my own. But I'm still trying for Texas.
