and...you answered my question already about the quick and how to know where to cut...

Now, if i happen to make a mistake, do they need to be rushed to the vet? I know in some animals it will not clot, and you need special powder to prevent them from bleeding out. I bought an e-kit and I think there's some corn startch in there....is this what it would be used for?

Thankfully, my girls are already comfortable with me holding their paws (i love to hold them and "squish" them when they're sleeping, lol) , but if they try to pull it away, do I let them? Just keep holding on? How hard do I work at keeping them in place, so as not to scare them? I have a problem with being stern with my babies, lol.

Oh good, glad it helped. Just a little cornstarch would help if you cut the quick. But if you go by the general rule of only cutting the tippy tips every time...you should be ok. I've never cut the quicks of any of my animals by doing this. You just have to cut them more often. ;)

Indie (what's YOUR name, by the way?), have lots of treats handy. Also, it's a little easier if you do it mid-afternoon, while they're more sleepy. If you do it in the evening, they are at full steam ahead and may be more wriggly. At least for the first time or two. If you only get a few nails done, don't obsess over it, just do it again in another day or so. It sounds like you are being a very attentive and loving momma!

hehe, I'm Christie...and thanks, but apparently not SO attentive...I haven't clipped their nails once, just been relying on the sand paper insert in their wheel. :0( My poor babies!

I usually wake up them up around 8:30 p.m. for a little snack of BML, and then they nap until 10:30 when we have tent time. I'll either try it before 8:30, or wait until this weekend. (May sound cruel to some, I know...changing their schedules to fit mine and all, but I REALLY like to give them tent time every night, and if I get them up without the pre-tent appetizer, they are nippy and eager to get back to their cage to eat.)

Thanks for the advise! I was thinking I might use baby marshmellows since it takes them longer to eat those...it seems like one of my girls just inhales her treats without chewing! the other isnt so treat-motivated (weird), but shes my sweetheart glider who is usually very calm. Also light sensitive, so will probably leave them on during. (Im a planner, can you tell?! LOL I like to have all my ducks in a row before starting haha)

LOL, it doesn't sound mean! You're learning, and doing a good job of it. I do have to comment on one thing you said though. I've never heard of anyone giving marshmallows to gliders. I don't think it's a good idea. I don't know the ingredients in marshmallows, but am pretty sure processed sugar is one of them, and that really isn't good for the babies. I wish I had a replacement suggestion, in terms of something they eat slower, but I don't :(

Yes, over at GC is where I got the idea first. Bourbon uses them in her "trust program" and also as occassional treats, so I figured since she's the creater of my girls' diet, it would be ok. Dont worry, its not a staple in their diet though! Most of the time, I rip a mini one into tiny pieces and stick them all over one of their hanging toys in the tent so they can discover them themselves. So, they are each only geting half of a mini marshmallow at the most :0)

Sorry...back OT - The girls were being so good after their BML snack last night, that I pulled out some clippers, just to see what would happen. Nothing! The worst they did was pull their arm back, but they didnt even open an eye when I pulled it out again. I had to stop though, because I decided I dont like the clippers I have for them. I didnt use any treats, and even though I wanted to reward them after I decided I need new clippers, they were fast asleep!

You might want to try a nice, sharp pair of human cuticle nippers. That's what I use. I turn them upside down to go with the curve of the nail and they work wonderfully.

I was wondering what you were using in that video! Great idea, going to buy some today :0)
