| Gracie is doing better but still not 100%. This morning I found what appears to be the remains of a joey in the cage. The head is not there but there are what appears to be the beginnings of legs & arms as well as the body, for the most part. But what is really strange is the curvature of what looks to be a spine and it got me wondering if there is any documented cases of scoliosis in gliders? My camera is an inexpensive digital one so I don't know how clear a picture would be or if anyone would even be interested in this. Just wondering....... | |

| Lynn, I'm really going to take a stab at this since I really have no clue whatsoever in this case. But...my "guess" is that since momma couldn't lift herself up to walk, eat or anything that the joey could have been deformed because of the pressure of it in pouch the way it was while developing. Again, that is just a guess.
Or...its just how it died, thats how it layed. | |

| When joeys first go in to pouch, they resemble the shape of a kidney bean, sort of like a c shape. Sounds like it was still early in it's development and may have been before they grow in to their final shape. | |

| Thats just what it looks like! But the spine is very curved on this little one & the head is not there. I'm thinking she pulled the joey when she was injured either due to her stress or the fact there was a problem with it. Would a picture help to tell if it was a curvature or just underdeveloped? | |

| No. We don't need a picture of that here. In all likelihood, it was a very underdeveloped joey. There is no humane way - at that young of an age - for there to be any research or diagnosis of any such skeletal issues. | |
