| Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I need a hair pulling smile. So Gannon did his 10 days of antibiotics, Friday there was a teeny tiny scab left. I had planned on putting him back with his family this upcoming weekend, but tonight when I checked Gannon I didn't feel a scab at all, smooth, hair laying flat. He has not messed with his wound at all. So, I thought I'd try to reintroduce him back to his family since I could feel no sign/see no sign of a wound/scab/raised area, nothing. But it would be supervied by me, in the tent. Gannon, Gigi and Gidget and two joeys in one pouch. I 'thought' I could see everything and I didn't see anyone go for his neck and there was no noise. In less than 5 minutes Gannon went down to the bottom of the pouch to root around with the babies and find the last treat, one of the girls followed him down, joeys popped to the top. Gannon finished up his treat and came back up to beg for another. And THIS is what I saw. I swear, no more than 5 minutes, I had the pouch wide open and never saw anything. I am soooooooo mad. I should have trusted my hunch and waited till this weekend. OR, am I wrong? Should I wait much longer, how much longer? What do I do. HELP. Here he is These pictures were taken after I put the girls back. I let Gannon stay with the babies while I cleaned it. The fur doesn't normally lay like that, but I cleaned it with the fur down so I could see it. It does not appear to have any tunneling, it is pink and fresh. It looks like a tooth hooked under the new skin and pulled up, and it could have taken much longer than that. But there was no scab, I felt it. Will this last forever? Help, advice please. | |

| Cora, there was no scab. You couldn't feel a thing with the tip of a finger. Thats why I am asking, if there is no palpable or visible wound/scab left.... how much longer do you wait? | |

| Alicia - when you took him to the vet the first time, did you have some x-rays done? I assume not, as that would not be normal for a wound visit. But, I ask because sometimes gliders know something that we do not and they will try to pick something out of the other glider.
I do have a case in my home that will not make you really happy to hear about. But, I'll tell you about it if you really wanna know. Give me a call on my home phone.
I'm so sorry that Gannon and you are going through this. I know how frustrating it can be. Do you have an idea which girl is doing it?

I missed your whole post Val. 1. I don't want to know, I can tell from your tone. 2. I flushed my phone down the toilet and it no longer works. I felt/saw a tiny scab on it Friday. So in my mind I was going to wait another week to make sure it was healed. But yesterday I was so excited to see it was gone I thought I'd give it a supervised try. I really think I tried to soon. I was impatient because he is really driving me bonkers and I know he'd rather be with someone/them. So now I am kicking myself. No xrays were taken at all. I don't know which girl it was, their butts look exactly alike and it was lighting fast. He went down, got a yoggie that had fallen to the bottom of the pouch, butts followed down, joeys popped to the top, and then he came up (in the time it takes to eat one yoggie drop) and he was bloody. He doesn't even seem botherd by it, he just wanted another treat. I have a very long work week this week. I'll keep him seperated (no mater how much he begs) and then maybe next week I'll take him in for an xray. But now you have me scared. Ignorance is bliss right? Ugg. I think I didn't wait long enough, there may not have been a scab I could feel but maybe the skin covering it was so fresh and delicate they just had to do it. I'm just really mad for not waiting till this weekend like I had planned.

| IT is possible you didn't wait long enough. It is also possible that he has a tiny bit of a scar. But, what I think is most possible is that the area around the wound smells like meds and all the gunk he is having put on it (even though it looks clean) and that she was just trying to clean it and then pulled at the thin skin. The reason we recommend keeping them apart until the wound is completely healed is because the skin is so thin for a bit after it comes together and looks healed. So, I imagine that is what happened.
I'm sorry to scare you. I also have some really AMAZING stories with wounds here. I have many gliders (4 so far) that I have been able to leave with their families (or portions of the family) WHILE they had a wound and the cage mate(s) never messed with it. It can happen. This is why I asked if you knew which girl was doing it. I was thinking maybe the other girl could spend some time with Gannon so he didn't drive you so nuts.
My story isn't so bad - gliders lived and all. I just finally had to separate after one glider kept opening up her cage mate in the same spot over and over and over again. She is with two new cage mates now and has never messed with them at all. Sometimes I just don't understand these little buggers.
Have you already had your trip to Vegas? if not, and you want me to watch and care for Gannon for ya while you are gone, just say the word. I'll meet ya and love on him every second. I have some things here for you (from Kristy) that I need to get to you anyway.

| Vegas is long gone. LOL. But thanks for the offer. I was really worried to leave him but it was just a tiny scab left. I almost called neighbors but then I changed my mind. Came back and he just had a hair of a scab (he had finshed all his meds by then) and a huge bald spot where he marked his hospital cage like a mad man. I have been letting him live in my room sized tent with 3 wheels, pvc tree and all the toys. He liked that. But having to spend a few nights in a small cage about killed him.
I just didn't trust that my family would remember there was a glider in the tent so I had to move him. He is back in his tent now, spoiled rotten brat.
I still want to make a weekend trip to your house again soon. But not too soon. I want to bring Jamie something since my post office dissapeared again.
When is that baby due?
Maybe I can find a weekend before the SGGA to come and visit since I am not going to see you there :(
And btw, and totally off topic, Jacob is showing in a horse show June 25th in Tulsa. So if you have vet visits you need to make, make it that weekend :) We'd love to see you.

| Hmm, well I am sorry Alicia! Let me tell you about Kenya though. Kenya got a mating wound, I did they daily cleaning (Chlorhexadine), I did a round of antibiotics. She too had no eveidence of a wound after 2.5 to 3 weeks. I did put her back in with her family and that same nite with me also supervising the same thing happened to her like Gannon. I was told (was it by you Val?) that since it heals from the inside out that it takes much longer to heal then we think, not just by the way the outside looks. Here is a picture of Kenya's wound, it was so nasty. Literally it's the nastiest wound any of my babies have had and I could see moving muscle and tendon/ligaments under the skin. Oh, wait now that I think about it I believe it may have been Sheila I was talking too. She had told me to wait anywere from 6-8 weeks even though it looked healed. So, I guess my opion would be to wait atleast 6 weeks after to allow complete healing. BUT Val is the QUEEN of glider wounds so I would take what I say with a grain of salt and follow her advice.
