The 2010 Memorial Quilt Empty
PostSubject: The 2010 Memorial Quilt   The 2010 Memorial Quilt Icon_minitimeFri Dec 17, 2010 8:45 pm

The 2010 memorial quilt is already being assembled and will be completed by the RRRoundup in March.

However, there is still time to honor your own beloved glider on this year's quilt. We will continue selling quilt squares for the 2010 quilt until JANUARY 15, 2011 only. After Jan. 15, 2011, you will not be able to get your square onto the 2010 quilt.
So, if you would like to honor one of your babies who passed away in 2010, then be sure to purchase your square before that deadline.

As a reminder, each square purchased is embroidered with the glider's name and date of passing and then sewn into a beautiful quilt which is then displayed at various gatherings throughout the year.

As always, if you would like to honor a glider who passed away any time before 2010, you can purchase a square for the "random dates" quilt, which will be created once we have 8-16 names for that quilt.

You can purchase your quilt squares from the SUGAR Group's website here:

Only 14 more days to purchase your squares for the 2010 memorial quilt! If you would like to honor the memory of your beloved baby that has passed AND help out a great cause, there is no better way. The 2010 quilt will be displayed for the first time at the SUGAR Group's RRRoundup in March and is already scheduled to appear at other events throughout 2011.

Your glider could be remembered through a square with your glider's name and date of passing embroidered on it, but only if you purchase before Jan. 15, 2011. This is a fantastic way to show you care and will always remember their little furry faces. I know, as I had to purchase several squares on this year's quilt myself.

As always, if you lost a glider prior to 2010 and want to honor that glider the same, then you can still purchase a square for them too. We are building a "prior to 2010 quilt" as well for all of those that missed out on the quilt for the year their loved one passed away.

The 2010 quilt is going to be beautiful. I saw parts of it when I was last in Michigan and I know it will be fantastic!

Some have been asking what happens to the money from each of these squares.
Well, first we purchase the screen printed squares and then we pay to have the quilt sewn. After that, all money earned from quilt squares goes directly to paying lab fees. We sometimes have monthly lab bills in excess of $400 for one month, so this is one way that we help cover those costs. Money from quilt square sales is not ever used for any other purpose.

The quilts are displayed at various events throughout the year.

If you lost a glider in 2010, then you can both honor their memory and support sugar glider research at the same time by purchasing a square for the quilt.

I've had gliders included on past quilts and I can tell you it's a wonderful thing. You're able to do something to remember your glider while at the same time helping others who lose a glider find a reason why. Sometimes the peace of mind from getting an answer is the only solace we have. With every necropsy, we learn more that can help all our gliders to live better lives. While losing a glider is something that can't be avoided, this is one way that they can live on and help others.

I too have many glider remembered on past and present quilts. I have also had to have several necropsy's done in the past year to determine why they died. I think this is an awesome what SUGAR does.
I know it's hard when you lose a glider but I can speak from experience that it does help with the grieving process when they go suddenly.

I think about how I have had my original gliders for almost 4 years now and my first pair were about 3 years old when I got them which makes them approximately 7 (since I don't know their oop dates, I just use the date that they came into my life and heart). Zoey, my sweetheart (whom I got from Dancing along with the surrendered tripod Toffee) is approximately 7 now, too. I think about that and I realize that they may be considered middle aged and that gets me to thinking about the very real probability that I will lose them as well as my younger ones someday (hopefully MANY years from now! But, the last 4 years have flown by - so, will the next several fly by, as well?). Not to mention the possibility of illness and other causes of death. I know that, when the time comes, I would LOVE to have my babies memorialized in this manner as well as helping the necropsy effort. It breaks my heart to think about losing any of them, but knowing that any necropsy I may have to have done will help other gliders and knowing that they will be remembered by more than just myself makes it a little easier to bear.
