Same Sex Mating

I wanted to post pictures of this since it happens frequently in my house. I have all girl gliders but one girl in particular tries to regularly 'mock mate' (I call it) with my other girl, Bindi. Perhaps it's a dominance issue, maybe some hormonal confusion during cycle. It quite startled me when I first saw it happen and then I heard from many people that it's semi common and has put a scare in quite a few owners. Because of this, I thought I'd note it here for any new owners.

She even bites the neck as a male would do so if you've never seen this, it can be startling.

Davie, good post! It startled me, too, the first time I saw it. I do see this as a dominance thing. Just like with normal "mating" you'll have to watch for mating wounds, they bite down pretty hard sometimes. However, the behavior itself is perfectly normal.

I've never had it here btw two girls, but I HAVE had a female 'mock mate' a male. It was only a few weeks after they were introduced so I'm nearly positive it was a dominance thing.

My WFB does or tries to mate with my other two girls. I am completely positive it is a dominance thing. The glider she most often tries to mount weighs 20 grams more than her on average.

My alpha females do it to your male mate. So I know it has to be a dominance thing.
