There are many signs and symptoms that indicate a parasite. Unfortunately, these same signs and symptoms can also indicate a number of other issues. Nonetheless, it is very important that all glider owners know some signs and symptoms that might indicate a parasite infection.

PLEASE NOTE- This is NOT a comprehensive list. Members are encouraged to add to this list if you know of other signs or symptoms.

* Diarrhea - especially "mucous-y" or stinky diarrhea (often smelling somewhat sulfuric).

* Unexplained weight loss - ESP. if there is an increase in appetite (because parasites eat all the host animal's nutrients before those nutrients are able to be absorbed by the host animal)

* Lethargy or change/decrease in activity level

* Sudden and unusual aggressiveness

* "Cracked" fur lacking in luster/sheen - This can be explained by MANY things, but is noted from time to time with parasite infections

* Anemia and/or "anemic" looking membranes . (i.e. pale to whitish gums/tongue)

* dragging of back legs or not using back legs

* Very slow/sluggish movement

* Neurological symptoms

* Overgrooming at the base of the tail (near cloaca)

* Self Mutilation
