So, the little stowaway from the airline I took in last month never got picked up or called on by her owner so I guess she's staying. I had a fecal done today...a month after her being here. She has hookworms. Lovely. While I'm not new to parasites, I am needing advice about the care of her. She is prescribed Panacur for 5 days and then retest in 5 days and then she can be intro'd with Maya. Yes, Maya is my Pentatrich glider. I know full well Mia could and probably will get it but from what I've heard, it isn't fatal. Maya is doing very well and is currently not symptomatic at all. I am asking for guidance with Mia about the whole aftercare and all with her because the vet didn't even tell me to sterilize her cage and everything else. Thankfully, Sara B reminded me to do it. Anyone have any advice?

I would imagine it would be the same as before:

Looks like a different medication this time though. I wish I had more helpful info but (knock on wood), I've never had to personally deal with parasites.

Lisa this is taken from the old post that Kylah posted above....

"We ALL know that false negatives are pretty high in parasite testing. If you have a sample in which no cysts or adults are shed, then you get a negative. The next sample may be full of parasites. This is why we tell people that they are not "in the clear" until they have had two or three negative fecal exams. "

Also taken from same post.....
"30 days after that, re-test (be sure you are doing all fecal tests and not just one).

Then, 30 days after that, re-test again."

JMO but since you are dealing with an already compromised glider you might want to error on the side of caution and be 99% sure the glider is parasite free. That glider does not need any other issues that can be prevented.

thank you both. I kind of figured that but since Val always says to follow my vets protocol, and I didn't feel it to be correct this time...I asked and am glad I did.
