Most and least liked foods

I hear from newer owners all the time that they think there is something wrong with their gliders because they won't eat _____________. Or we hear frequently of "picky" gliders and then find that they are not fed a wide variety and aren't so picky when other foods are introduced.

Glider's appetites and likes/dislikes are as varied as they are in people. So, I thought it would be advantageous for us to share the differences in our homes as far as favorites and least liked foods.

Please tell us what are your gliders most favorite fruits/veggies, which are hit-or-miss at your house, and which are pretty much always rejected.

I'll start.

Favorite foods in my home include:
corn
cucumber
jicama
sweet potato
sweet peas
watermelon
dried coconut
persimmon
blueberry
Grapes


Hit-or-Miss here:
strawberry
bell pepper
spinach
raspberry


Disliked:
yellow squash
zuccini

It is very, very rare my gliders reject food. I honestly have a hard time relating to those with picky eaters. However, some foods I've noticed they don't care for as much as others (I guess these would be hit or miss):

Raw carrots
Broccoli
Squash
Strawberries
Kale

Favorite foods definitely include:
Corn
Green Bell Peppers
Cucumber
Sweet potato
Peas (sugar snap and regular green)
Cantaloupe
Jicama

Hit or miss:
Carrots
Green beans
Mango
Strawberries
Mushrooms
Broccoli

Never seem to eat:
Frozen Brussel Sprouts
Squash (tried a few different kinds, but not all yet)

Favorites

Horned melon
peas (snap & regular)
jicama

black eyed peas
beans (black, garbanzo, kidney, white)
brussel sprouts
grape tomatoes

acorn squash (must be cooked)

Hit or Miss

Cantaloupe

Since there is so much they like I will just put the few things they don't like. Mine go through mood swings but these are the few things I know for sure they will not eat.

carrots unless they are shredded
pears
blackberries
peaches
bananas

My gliders will eat squash if it is cubed small and the same size as the other foods in the mix.

There are very few foods they dislike. There are some foods that it seems like the entire room will refuse to eat all on the same day, but I can't think of anything they won't eat, ever, other than blackberries.

Brussels Sprouts,beets, turnips do you cook them?

I don't, Brenda. There are a couple of frozen mixes that have these in them (not all at once, each mix has one type of bean). The black eyed peas I get are frozen, as well. So...they are already cooked.

I also buy the dried beans at the store, soak them overnight, and then feed them. I will sometimes cook them for a very short time, just to make them a little soft, but more often than not, I don't.

Be prepared - these are loved SO much by all of my gliders that it looks like bean/pea bombs went off in the room! LOL

My boys will eat just about anything, I also will list only the "Dislikes".

Brussel Sprouts frozen or fresh

Its very easy to see that gliders are different just like us.
My dogs are the same way, one is very picky, the other would eat rubber if it
was in her bowl.

Thank you Aimee..I have bought the Ranchero Fiesta blend in the frozen food but thought they were precooked. I am going to try some of these this week from dry.

Yep - they are precooked, this is one of the blends that I purchase and they love everything! The dry ones are just a good bit cheaper, especially with lots of gliders.

Just bought Soursop fruit, cant wait to try it. Im still waiting for it to ripen. I also cant wait for summer when my local Asian store starts selling more different exotic fruits.
