PostSubject: SICK GLIDER   SICK GLIDER Icon_minitimeFri Mar 23, 2012 11:58 am

My friend, Helen, has a very sick glider. Tiki has diahrrea, is dragging her hind legs and is shaking so bad it sounds like she's having seizures. She went to a vet yesterday that didn't do ANYTHING but give her a shot of nutrients and send her on her way Evil or Very Mad So, I gave her a number to a vet 2 hours away to call, and hopefully they will get her in this evening to look at this glider. Does anyone have any CLUE what this could be? I told her to make sure the vet does fecals since the last vet didn't yesterday! I don't know what to tell her to do, She is scared. Someone please help my friend out!

She needs to have the Vet do a fecal float, smear and culture. To check for parisites and or a bactieria infection. If he can get urine have him do a urine culture as well to check for a UTI. Also she needs to worry about dehydration and needs to try to get the glider to drink water asap or fruit punch flavored gatoraide/ pedialyte. she needs toget the glider into a Vet today the glider may possibly not make it through the night, I am not saying it won't I am saying it may possibly not, The glider does need help right away.

She should call Val...I believe her number is on her profile, or on a list of who to call. I'd do it ASAP.

I know she doesn't want to go back to the same vet, but until she can get in to another, that same vet (or maybe another vet that's closer) could at least maybe run the fecal tests? They don't even physically need the glider for that, just a sample.

She's tried calling Val since yesterday evening.. no answer, and no returned calls. She HAS talked to Gail with LGRS and is giving little Tiki clear pedialite, honey, canned chicken in water and Fulkers brand Calcium mixed in with yogurt. I'm so scared she's gonna lose her little girl, and it was almost a year ago that I went through a similar circumstance and lost my baby girl Kiwi. I DID look on GC's emergency contact list and gave her Kate's number. She was listed under a number of issues to call about. I'll update yall as soon as I can about little Tiki. And if Helen is getting her into the vet 2 hours away, if not, I'm telling her to go to a closer vet just for the fecals.

she is leaving at 4 (eastern time) to take both her gliders to the vet. it's a 2 hour drive. I'd like to call ahead for her and make sure that they have all the info needed or something. What do I need to do for her?

Along with each of the fecal tests (float, smear, SNAP and culture), her vet really ought to also do xrays, as well.

ok. i texted her a couple vet consult numbers, i told her to make sure he does a fecal smear, float and culture, and to try to get urine to test for a UTI. I also told her to have the vet call one of those consult numbers to be safe rather than sorry. ..... i shared with her that xrays wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

I know this isn't my glider, but I know what it's like to have a sick one and to lose one for her. Not to mention "I" am her only source of information (I think she is kinda dingy when it comes to internet stuff lol) so, if it weren't for me, she and Tiki would be in a very bad place right now. THANKS TO YOU GUYS I AM ABLE TO BE THAT SOURCE OF INFORMATION FOR HER!!! SICK GLIDER 890490

Have her vet call Dr. Walsh - it will be the best call she makes.

Hold up everyone. This may (likely is not) not be as bad as it sounds. Sometimes, just the right question can open a whole new level of understanding.

No one panic. I HAVE spoken with her and am waiting for a video to be sent to me. I think I know exactly what is going on. She is in good hands, still has the second vet visit and all is well.

Happy to hear she got in touch with you - sorry we overreacted. We're still not so good at that whole "one question" thing LOL.
