My eight year old male woke up on Friday morning with a slightly swollen face. No worries I thought, wrong. By Monday morning it looked as if he was punched in the nose. So I got on glider gossip.com and that is where I found this site. The pictures were super helpful and that's how I found out he had an abscess. Of course I didn't know any of the important questions like how or why.
So I went the vet and this is what we found: Tooth root abscess left maxillary with extensive facial swelling, Oronasal Fistula and/or sinus infection
X-ray results: Maxilla X-ray: Possible radiolucency around the roots of the left maxillary teeth, no honey lesions, no signs of cancer
Treatments: Isoflo mask anesthesia, abscess draining out of gum around the left max. Expressed caseous pus until no more, flushed wound with sterile saline, removed the loose incisor and the two cheek teeth, packed tooth root sockets with Clindamycin powder, closed wound with 7-0 Vicryl simple sutures, gave 0.05cc burp renew sq post op.
Medications: Meloxicam 1mg, diluted to 0.5mg, give 0.3ml once daily orally.
Baytril 11mg give 0.06ml once daily orally.
I have pictures if someone can tell me how to upload them. I hope this is helpful. I will keep you updated.
