hissing while pooping

I decided to change out the cage set, so the suggies swapped from one pouch to another. Upon switching, Gizmo came out and decided to potty. He must have REALLY had to go, cause it was taking a while..... He pooped a little, then peed a little... then pooped again... then when he pooped some more, he raised his butt high and hissed a few times, and the poo came out.... it looked kinda big (like 2 little poopies came out side by side instead of one behind the other).... then he peed again.

I've never heard him (or the other 2) do this before. Do I need to give him some prunes to soften it up? Was it just the way it came out?.... now he's eating. I mean, it's not normal for him..then again, I did wake him up.. maybe he got hungry after all that pee and poo came out ..?!

It's entirely possible that he was straining extra hard with that poo...I would definitely keep an eye and ear on him. If it continues, try some canned pumpkin - I've heard it's very good to regulate - helps with both diarrhea and constipation. If you think he's hissing while peeing, it could be a UTI which would need to be diagnosed by a vet. Good luck!

I watched him pee. and it was only the one time. all 3 of them were up a little while ago. Granted..... Ziggy ended up with 4 yogies in the last few hours. So, it's understandable that he was running in circles on the top of the cage. But the other 2 don't really seem to have an excuse. I mean, after waking them to wash the cage set... then hubby woke them when he came home to say 'hi'... then shortly after that we got company... so i'm really hoping that between being bugged so much and the company AND the yogies, that they just 'couldn't' go back to sleep..

Glad I found where I posted this because he did it again. A couple days ago, Gizmo hissed and kindof squawked/crabbed as he poo'd. And tonight he hissed once but I couldn't tell if it was while he was peeing or pooing. He'd already pooped without hissing, but when he hissed this evening, it was too dark to tell if it was pee or poo or if anything at all came out. Just not sure if I should be worried or what... his behavior seems normal otherwise.

maybe it was just a really really big poo?

How's he doing now? Have you noticed any more hissing? Did you try the pumpkin?

haven't noticed anything... heard some crabbing coming from the pouch... dunno what that was about. Gizmo wouldn't eat the canned pumpkin, turned his nose up at it. So I cut up some real pumpkin and they ate on it a little..... dunno if an actual pumpkin will help as canned pumpkin will....

Are you sure there is an issue? I have a glider here who hisses while going to the bathroom. He has been to the vets and was checked out. His urine and stools are all fine, he just hisses while going. He has done this for several months now.

I agree, Brenda. I have two that hiss and have since coming to my home. They are clean and have no health issues.
