Little Muchu is 12 weeks oop now, he started to hiss while urinating on 20/07/2010. I took him to the local vet which prescribed Baytril for 5 days. His penis won't retract and I have been giving him rehydrate and putting on KY jelly every two hours or so. There is no necrotic tissue so far, glad about that. On day 4 of the Baytril, I took him to another local vet who did urinalysis and fecal's and found absolutely nothing. His penis is really not more red than usual and the part protruding is about 1cm.

We took the 3 hour drive to my exotic vet yesterday, and the vet gave Muchu antibiotics and Metacam. They could not find any sign of infection and initially thought it’s a penis prolapse, but said he is too young for this to be going on. They think it’s a possible blockage in the urine tract and want to see what the antibiotics will do.

His penis will sometimes retract after applying KY jelly, he is taking his meds like a good boy. He doesn’t seem to be in pain of have any discomfort, he is not messing with it at all. I really make sure to lubricate frequently. He is having diarrhea right now, I think it’s from the medication, so I am keeping him hydrated as well.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what else this could be since the Baytril did nothing and the urine and stools are clean.

I have read Tobasco's story and am inspired by it, thank you for giving me hope.

Thank you so much for already going to the vet and getting your baby on meds. You are doing everything right for him.

It is possible, at his age, that his story will be very much like Tobasco's. We have seen that it can happen. So, be sure to keep the penis moist and keep an eye on behavior.

One thing you might keep in mind (and I'm not saying it is the case here, just that you might consider it) is that UTI's in gliders typically require a long treatment. So, even if not showing up on tests, if he DOES have one, then you will need to be sure to treat for about 20 days.

Don't panic just yet. As long as there is no necrosis, he is fine. Don't do anything drastic until you have given him ample time to stop showing off all his goods to all the world.

Thank you for your reply. Muchu is still doing the same, I do everything and more to keep him from having an amputation. He is on Amoxyllin for the next 10 days, if need comes we will extend. Thank you again, I will keep you posted.

Mushu is doing OK I guess. We are on day 9 with Muchu man.

At 3am and 6am his penis was fully retracted all by himself which is a good thing. We still apply KY Jelly anyway. He has diahrea from the medicine unfortunately and still hisses when he urinates. We stopped the Metacam yesterday (only gave for three days) but he is still getting the antibiotics with some protexin.
