| Looks like Rocko will be tagging along with Ever to the vet tomorrow morning. I found a pinhole under his chin earlier! I will update when I can.

| Aw man. That sucks. I'm sorry.
I wonder if something is hereditary with them since sugar is Rocko's daughter?
I know Nash is doing wonderful and having no issues but I wonder if this is something that will happen in the future with Nash.

| Vet says a puncture wound.............no kidding!!! You would love this wound Val!!! He also said Rockos teeth looked good. So whew!!! Now how the heck did he get that wound ??? I have been over and over his cage and dont see anything. I clean the tray pans every three days but have not seen any blood. I wash the sheets the cages are covered with every 2 weeks and its been a little longer this time and there is not any splatter of blood anywhere. Nothing sharp that would cause that type of wound was found upon careful cage search when I got home. So maybe his bottom incisors went through or Roxys, but wouldnt there be 2 holes??? Weird. In any event he gets antibiotics, and I clean the wound with the blue wound cleanser and fill the hole with the mupirocin 2% ointment twice a day. And oh what fun that was just a little bit ago :) | |

| What about a plastic house or a piece on a toy that comes to a point or has a corner? May not seem sharp but if they fall/land on any object just right, they probably could easily puncture something. Not saying to remove anything that resembles what I mention, just saying, that probably the littlest unexpected toy/dish/object could have played part. Glad he hasn't fussed with it and caused any further damage | |

| Man Cora. What a mystery. At least it's not swollen shut from infection..... But goodness, you'd think it would be HEALING shut enough by now not to be leaking from his mouth. I'd be bonkers trying to figure it out though. Good luck with all your 'patients!' | |

| Cora called me and asked me to update the boards.
Rocko went to Mary H's vet today. He said the hole went through the gum and the root of his two bottom incisors are gone. Therefore the vet is removing the two bottom incisors today. So it is periodontal disease, like Sugar.

| Just got an update from Cora:
Upon further inspection, the vet thinks it may be a tumor in his gum, by the incisor root, so the vet decided to hold off on pulling his teeth and put Rocko on Baytril and an oral rinse for 3 wks then a recheck with xrays, etc.

| Goodness. A dental tumor would be something. Poor Rocko.
Cindy - there is a thread here about recognizing periodontal disease. Mouths are terribly nasty places, ripe for bacteria. It is no wonder so many animals get oral infections (periodontal disease).

| That would be something horrible Val. I am not thinking that thought and neither should ANY of you. Its a simple infection and the 3 weeks of baytril and oral rinse twice a day will work Amen! | |

| Hey, its all good!!! I am so glad I went with Mary to Rockos follow up appt. I loved the way he handled the gliders with great bedside manner, always kind and gentle with the way he spoke to them. So the hole is closed on the inner lip and is just visible on the outside which is improvement. The bumps I felt are soft today, fat pads the boy gained 10 grams in 3 weeks. Like he needed that considering he is as almost as big as his daughter Sugar!!! I am to stop the baytril and continue the mouth cleaning with that solution. He says he is healing well and quite pleased, on the outside it did not look like improvement but I wasnt looking on the inside. GO ROCKO!!!! | |

| no tumors! I have to say I was skeptical of the quickderm but it healed that pesky hole up in 1 week. It is just a scar, a memory. I sure hope it stays that way!! Thanks a million Mary!!! :) | |
