New adoptee doesn't like Val's diet :-/

I recently adopted a new boy, we named him yogi. After about a week it seems as though he eats everything but Val's diet. So tonight I have only offered Val's diet to see if he's just not eating a ton, but he seems uninterested. He has had a vet visit, clean fecal float/smear and a neutering. He's in a separate cage ATM also. Active plays all night on his wheel, stealth jr wheel, pooping regularly. He was on hpw before, however after carefully inspecting him I noticed his fur was a slight brown hue, very much unlike my beautiful girls, sweetie and peanut. I was hoping to change this and make his belly bright white like my girls by feeding a more balanced diet, however he just does not seem interested.
My question is what can/should I do?

What was he fed before you got him?
How long have you been feeding Val's diet?
Are you giving treats too close to dinner time? They are like little kids and will fill up on junk food then not want to eat what is best for them. Try to not give treats to the too close to dinner or after you put his dinner in the cage. Reserve treats for morning or early afternoon. Not saying you are doing this just making a general statement!

What extras did you put in? Maybe you could try a different batch, or maybe he just needs time to get used to the change. Disclaimer- I don't own suggies yet, just throwing some thoughts out there.

Have you tried reaching out to Val? She's an absolute sweetheart.

My gliders didn't like it at first either. I tried a few different ingredients (there are plenty of options) and now they clean it up....every last bit! They do NOT like okra....it was slimy and disgusting! Yuck! I can't find the green juice that Val uses, so I use the Bolthouse Farms Green Goddess fruit smoothie in its place.

I actually ended up throwing away 2 batches before I caught on to their VERY clear message.....do not give us okra!!! Lol.....

Shannon asked the same questions I would ask. I have found that there are some combinations that just aren't as appealing to gliders. If you made only one batch(meaning it is all one flavor) then you should make a different batch with different flavors. Try using pineapple coconut juice as your second juice also. They really love that.

When you have only a few gliders, I always recommend making 1/2 batch size batches and freezing in ice cube trays. Make 2-3 half-batches so that you can switch up the flavors every day.

In the 5-6 years that I have been using this diet, I have never had a single glider (including new rescues) refuse it. But I have had nights where they pretty much all turn their noses up at a particular combination of flavors.

Okra does tend to be one of the ingredients that is not so well received. Because it is good for them, I have started adding just 3-5 pieces of frozen, chopped okra to eatch batch. That way there is a little bit in there, but it is not so slimey.

Yogi has been with us 10 days.
He was on HPW before hand.
I have been feeding Val's diet since I got him 10 days ago.
No treats have been given to him. He's still new and I am trying to make it as stress free as possible. He does get items in addition to the diet at dinner time though.
I'm not sure though whether it is he doesn't like it or he's not a big eater. I give him 1 ice cube of vgv so I think it's just a little much. It's hard to tell.
ATM I have 2 diff batches. 1 batch with a few fruits and changes to make it a little different for my girls who have been on it for about a year, and the standard vgv with yogurt, honey, and barley wheat grass as the optional ingredients.
I have never used okra yet, and I probably won't after what you told me haha. Maybe I'm just putting so much of the diet I don't notice him eating it.

What is he getting "in addition to the diet at dinner time"? And is he eating that?

Is he eating all the fruits and veggies?

He was getting yogurt, veggie mix, honey dew, papaya slices fresh, and applesauce organic. He seemed to eat everything but vgv. But again I think I was over feeding, or simply putting way more than he could possibly consume so it was hard to tell. I will give an update after today. I will inspect his bowl very carefully and give him a weigh in to determine whether or not he's lost weight.

Organic applesauce is in vgv already, and yogurt is one of the 'extra' ingredients you can add to a batch. They also have tiny stomachs and kinda nibble throughout the night. I'd cut the yogurt and extra applesauce, then serve the batch of VGV with the fruit and veggie servings. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon.

How was his bowl this morning?

I t sounds like you may be offering a total plate of food that is more than he could possibly eat. That makes the leftovers look like he has not touched much at all.

Try putting all of his food in a 1/4 cup measuring cup as you prepare to serve it. 1/4 cup is 4 tablespoons - more than enough food for the night for one glider - so it does not need to be packed full.

In the morning you can put the leftovers back in the measuring cup to get a better estimate of how much was eaten. Most gliders will not eat much more than 3 tablespoons total over night.

Fed just the vgv, 1 cube which is 2 servings or enough for 2 gliders, almost all gone this morning. Must have been just too much food.

That's fine for one night, but try not to make it a habit. Remember that the diet plan includes the mix, and a wide variety of fruits and veggies each night. The "other stuff" like yogurt and such should be fed on those "off" nights when you don't offer the staple mix. And watch those portions. If you need to, use a measuring spoon so that you aren't stressing yourself. All-in-all, sounds like he is eating just fine. Whoo hoo!
