popping

Ok, this is my first post as I was sent here for a medical question I have concerning my buddy Gizmo. He's making this popping sound and I'm not sure what it means. A few months ago, I had a glider that was diagnosed with Pneumonia and the last few days of her life, she was popping with every breath (RIP Kiwi baby) So, this is the reason I'm panicing a bit right now. Gizmo is doing it, but not consistently. I "thought" he was doing it while he was grooming, but he just groomed himself for a few minutes under the sleeve of my shirt with no popping sounds. I only know how to describe it as sounding like a bubble popping. He's not done it now for about 10-15 mins, so I"m starting to think I'm over analyzing and being a worry wart. But does anyone know what this sound means? Or why my baby is doing it? :IDK:

I always thought that it was a sign of contentment, relaxation & happiness. I love the lil popping sounds. It reminds me of when infant babies have a little bit of milk on their lips and their asleep, they pop bubbles. So darling.

Gliders do pop when they are relaxed and content. If it is not happening consistently, then I would say you just have a happy baby on your hands.

ok... Gizmo was popping some while grooming, then the popping quit. I just took him out of the cage so he could sleep on me and I could listen to him. He did it maybe once or twice a minute- just one little 'pop'. Once or twice it was two little pops almost together. Then he quit. I tried to wake him to see what he would do and he just wanted to scurry away to find a spot to go back to sleep (typical for him). So, either my glider is 'getting' sick... or he's 'poppin' happy !?!?! -- how can you tell the difference?!

I don't think he's sick but happy, unless you've noticed something wrong. I never hear popping unless they are asleep which means their comfy, happy & possibably having fun dreams.

I got an audio recording of him popping while he's walking around inside my shirt. I don't know how to get an audio recording online, but I e-mailed it to myself from my iphone if anyone wants to give me their e-mail address so you can have a listen.

If your glider were getting ill, there would be other symptoms. Popping is a very common sound in gliders. When they are ill, it is a louder pop and it is noticed most often on inhalation and is more pronounced when they are ACTIVE than when they are resting.

Having said that, if you are this worried, then you need to get the little guy in to see your vet and have some x-rays run. That would confirm or rule out the presence of respiratory infection.

I agree with Val. Peace of mind is worth a vet check if you are worried about your little one.

thanks Val. He quits the popping when he's moving around, and like I said, it's not consistent. I had a few people listen to the video and they called it 'clicking' rather than popping. So, the people that listened to the video agree with the first few responses on here that he's just a really happy and content lil guy. I'll keep an eye out for the symptoms you mentioned, though. thanks
