PostSubject: Group project - FAQ   Wed May 12, 2010 7:53 pm

In the coming months, we will be compiling and posting an FAQ for each of our medical sections. The dream/goal is to create a thread that someone can come and read when they are experiencing an issue with a glider to get some answers to questions that they have and be comforted by knowing they are not the only ones with those questions.

So, we are going to do this a few sections at a time. We are asking that you all post your questions here. Then, we will compile some answers, remove this post, and replace it with an FAQ sticky.

So, lay your questions about BROKEN BONES on us! We want to hear them. No question is a stupid question. Remember, if you wonder it, chances are someone else does too.

Is it safe for a sugar glider to have Xrays?

Do they have to be anesthetized?

Can we ask a question even if we already figured out the answer, just because it'd be a good thing to be in an FAQ...? I figured out answers to these already when dealing with Munch's leg, but I do feel that others might be wondering the same things if they ever go through broken bones..

If it's okay to post questions we already know the answers for, some good questions (IMO) are as follows:

What are the pros and cons of using a splint on a broken limb?

Is it okay for the glider with a broken bone to still have playtime with his cagemates?

How long should we wait before re-checking x-rays, after the initial ones?

What special conditions would a glider with a broken require? (diet, housing, etc..)

Will the glider require special housing conditions after healing?

If a splint was used on the broken limb, causing the bones to fuse together, will the glider experience problems with doing ordinary glider things? Will a glider with bones fused together be at risk of any future problems with that limb?

What could cause a broken limb, anyway?

I asked questions under "amputation" that I already knew answers to but it seems like when the topic is discussed, those were common questions. If I understand correctly, they just want questions you've seen most commonly asked.
