PostSubject: Red Palm Oil   Sat Jan 23, 2010 11:09 pm

Red palm oil has many health benefits. It is more packed with nutrients than any other dietary oil. Here is some info from the Coconut Research Center:

Quote :
Until modern medicine arrived, red palm oil was the remedy of choice for nearly every illness in many parts of Africa. When someone was sick, downing a cup full of palm oil was common. Even today many people in the villages rely on this age old method of treatment. Palm oil is regarded among many as essential in the diet for pregnant and nursing women in order to assure good health for the mother and child.

Today, medical doctors are recognizing the value of red palm oil in the treatment and prevention of malnutrition and vitamin deficiency diseases. Governments around the world are incorporating it into programs to wipe out deficiency diseases which are still rampant in many impoverished areas.

Red palm oil not only supplies fatty acids essential for proper growth and development, but it is packed with an assortment of vitamins, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients important for good health. Red palm oil gets its name from its characteristic dark red color. The color comes from carotenes such as beta-carotene and lycopene—the same nutrients that give tomatoes and carrots and other fruits and vegetables their rich red and orange colors.

Carotenes are valuable nutrients and powerful antioxidants. They are also important because our body can convert them into vitamin A, an essential nutrient. Vitamin A deficiency can cause blindness, weaken bones, lower immunity, and adversely affect learning ability and mental function.

I have been using RPO with my birds since day one. All of my bird vets have always recommended it. I became sold on it when I saw the difference it made in Sussy's feather sheen and overall health. I have put it in my bird bread and cooked bird meals for years. It has benefits for treating pain in elderly birds and makes their feathers just SHINE. Since i used to do bird rescue, I just used it to help treat whatever ailed them when they came in (LOL).

I had never thought to use it with gliders (DUH), but after seeing Dee post that she used it, I asked Dr. Walsh and he was ALLLLLLLL for it. So, I started adding it to the diet.

As an aside, the more research I do on it, the more I love it. So, I have ordered some supplements for ME that I will be using. I'm gonna test it out and see how it works with my daily lupus pain.

Here are a few places where you can read up on RPO: ** Please note that some of these are ALSO places where you can purchase the product.

I began using it w/my birds as some of them in the wild actually eat the fruit/nuts of these palm trees. I do use it w/my gliders and also use coconut oil, flax oil.

I think that the use of fats must be judicious so that gliders maintain a healthy weight and muscle mass. They don't eat much fat in nature.

1 teaspoon or 1 Tablespoon. Whichever you wish to include. Personally, I use 1 Tablespoon in a batch of my food.

I have been using Sunshine Factor red palm oil. My gliders love it as a licky treat or I "ice" a cheerio with it for a snack. I hadn't thought about mixing it into the staple.
