HLP (Metabolic bone disease) can only be diagnosed through a thorough vet visit. X-rays are required. In many cases, a vet may also require blood work to diagnose HLP.
HLP will present as decreased bone density on an x-ray.

Signs and symptoms include:

* very slow movements
* Decreased activity level
* Dragging one or more legs
* Seizures
* Improper or irregular use of one or more limb(s)
* Inabilty to demonstrate "normal" mobility
* Malnutrition

As always, a vet visit is NECESSARY. You cannot self diagnose. Remember, in most cases, HLP is a result of a bacterial or parasitic infection. Therefore, deciding to treat yourself by increasing calcium or some other home remedy could be deadly for your glider in more than one way. Never, ever self-diagnose or treat. GO TO A QUALIFIED VET.
