Quickderm - Advanced Wound Care Ointment Empty
PostSubject: Quickderm - Advanced Wound Care Ointment   Quickderm - Advanced Wound Care Ointment Icon_minitimeMon Mar 22, 2010 9:58 am

Several of us in the glider community have used this product and found it to be our new favorite thing! This ointment is inexpensive and has dramatically decreased healing time with wounds. If you find yourself with a mating wound or any other wound, talk with your vet about using Quickderm.

Product information:
Quote :
QuickDERM Advanced Wound Ointment
For Use on Dogs, Cats and Horses

QuickDERM has a new, innovative technology for hard to heal wounds and burns in companion pets and horses. QuickDERM is a very non-caustic ointment that can address a variety of acute and chronic wounds. This Advanced Wound Ointment supports healthy epithelialization of wounds.

Indications:

Burns

Open Abscesses and Open Wounds

Hot Spots

Post Surgical Incisions

Lacerations

Decubital Ulcers (Bed Sores)

Moist Bacterial Dermatitis

Anal Sacs

Bacterial Pyoderma

Inhibits Proud Flesh

Over recent years, medical science has seen dramatic advances in new and innovative wound-care protocols. Once a matter of simple wet saline dressings, wounds can now be better managed by a number of new techniques, including a family of compounds known as proteases down-regulators. When these meatrixmetalloproteinases (MMP's) are over produced, the wound healing cascade becomes unbalanced.

In a typical open wound, new tissue is grown as old, necrotic tissue is removed and sloughed off by the body. This series of events is regulated by specific enzymes (proteases) which act to govern the rate at which new tissue is grown. Unfortunately, these proteases can become over-active and slow the healing in acute and chronic wounds. This is the case in such common wounds as decubitus sores, traumatic injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, and first degree wounds from burns. VetCare is transferring this patented blend of metal ions from the human market to the veterinary market. There is a direct correlation between humans and animals, as it relates to the overproduction of mmp's.

Instructions for Use:

Gently cleanse the wound using standard wound care practices

Apply ointment to affected areas

Re-apply daily when possible

Ingredients:
Peg 400 & 4000, water, Benzoic Acid, Citric Acid and a patented blend of supportive ions.

Warnings:

For external use only. Discontinue use and consult your veterinarian if dermal (skin) irritation occurs.

Other Information:

Store at or below room temperature ( 25 degrees C/ or 77 degrees F)

Store out of direct sunlight and in a dry place

Do not use if open or compromised

I am one who has used the QuickDerm. I was very impressed. Since it's a lightweight gel/ointment, the glider tolerated it much better than other topical solutions I've used. We used it on a glider with a throat wound after repeated surgeries to close it. This glider also had a tumor removed from his chest. Healing had been slow and the tissue reopened several times before trying the QuickDerm. We saw a tremendous increase in the healing of this area. There was no odor to it and the glider didn't pay much attention to it.

Does anyone remember the guys name that spoke with us that were involved in Val's webinar several months ago. Was it Mikel? Hays - Last name?

Didn't he also say that this was made with salt (ocean water) & redwood trees?

I can't remember & I don't have my notes in front of me.

Any assistance appreciated.

Has anyone used this in a location that the glider could get to and lick? Did they lick it off or did they leave it alone? I noticed in the Warning: section that it said "For external use only. "

Yes. I even use it on my own lips (which I am known to lick). I have used it on pretty much every body part of gliders, and they HAVE licked it. No ill side effects.

Is this available over the counter or do you have to get it from a vet?

You can get it from a vet or from TGI or various other places online.

In a recent conversation with Mr. Hayes, he informed me that they are slowly changing the PH of the product over the next few product runs. Changing the PH will result in less stinging.

He wanted me to share that they ARE listening to our concerns. While he knows most of us are very pleased with the product, he also is hearing our concerns regarding the stinging and they are addressing it. He also sent Kingdom Kritters another care package (which arrived today).

Just one more reason why I will continue to recommend this product.

I recently used it on a scratch on my dog's head. Worked great and didn't bother him at all.

It worked amazingly on Lan and is working very well on Poppy's mating wound which is already significantly smaller. However, I am wondering about Dr. Walsh's concern that changing the PH could effect the effectiveness of it. I'm sure the Quickderm team knows what they are doing, though. Lan and Poppy put up with the stinging just fine - but it would be nice to know that it doesn't bother them as much. As long as this ointment works as well as I have seen it work on humans and gliders alike, I will be highly recommending it to all!
