PostSubject: ThePetGlider diet vitamins   Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:13 pm

Does anyone know the exact vitamins in thepetglider diet packs? Like a listing of what and amounts? I would think this is important information for if the glider gets sick - to know what they have injested etc?

If no one knows I will go ahead and ask Priscilla if she is willing to let me know what is in them....

If she tells you please ask if you have permission to post it here also.

Priscilla responded with information reguarding her viatmins. See below (copy and paste)
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
We have raised sugar gliders for nearly 10 years on our diet. Years ago we came to the conclusion that there were no high quality vitamin and mineral products available for sugar gliders. We worked with our 400 sugar gliders, and input from our vet, to come up a comprehensive, high quality balanced vitamin & mineral complex. He has examined our gliders and feels the diet we are using is excellent. He says that the best diet for an exotic animal is a diet of variety and we have followed this advice with great results. Years ago we heard of unexplained illnesses and liver problems in sugar gliders. We asked our vet what we could do so that we did not have these problems. He recommended adding milk thistle to our diet to insure healthy liver function. He also recommended using human grade vitamins instead of animal vitamins because animal grade vitamins are inferior.
Here are some specifics: Our vitamins have a 5:1 ratio of calcium to phosphorus. Our multi generations of sugar gliders have never had HLP, or any calcium or diet related problems. The Pet Glider vitamins are a balanced multi vitamin and multi mineral supplement, including calcium. This vitamin is for mammals, not reptiles. Our supplement also has, bee pollen, milk thistle for healthy liver function, probiotics for the immune system and for better absorption of nutrients, and Gum Arabic (from the Acacia species) a carbohydrate high in calcium and a natural part of the diet of a sugar glider in the wild.
We still have our very first glider. Sofie is 10 and she has had a joey in the last year!
Priscilla
Kim, what diet do you have your gliders on now? There are many options for diets, so look them all over before you decide.
A couple of questions to ask your self are, are you going to breed? Are these rescue gliders? Do they have health issues? Do they have special needs? Each of these questions brings a special set of circumstances that would require dietary consideration. We'll be happy to help you get going in the right direction.
Hi Kim!!! I'm glad you came over.
This diet is one made of ingredients you can purchase at the grocery store, with the exception of the vitamins. PP's vitamins are available from the pet glider website. The recipe and feeding instructions are also there.
I feed it w/ HPW sometimes. The variety of vitamins are different, and I do not think in such small quantities it can be 'overdosed' if that is a concerns. Ie both have bee pollen.
I do really like TPG diet once you get into it. :) Lots of diets out there, and I firmly feel that people will find their own, what works for them :)
No, you cannot use Priscilla's vitamins with the blended diet. Priscilla's Glider Complete vitamins contains calcium and bee pollen in addition to other vitamins.
I asked Priscilla months ago to please tell me how much calcium and phosphorus her vitamins contain and she declined to give out that information. Yes it has a 5:1 ratio but that does not tell me if it has 50 mg Calcium and 10 mg Phosphorus or 5000 mg calcium and 1000 phosphorus. Either would have a 5:1 ratio.
The blended diet calls for 900 mg calcium (3/4 tsp of the calcium powder containing 1200 mg per tsp) There is no way of calculating the amount to use in order to substitute Priscilla's vitamins.
My sugars gliders really like the Exotic diet but will not eat anything that has the vitamins sprinkled on. Is there some other way to get their vitamins? Why can't they be mixed in the basic mix?
JPCox - you may need to ask Priscilla directly about mixing the vitamins into her staple mix.
I am sure Priscilla has reasons for her directions on giving the vitamins.
I have contacted Priscilla. She said you cannot mix the vitamins in because the probiotics in it cannot be frozen. Makes sense. She suggested mixing the vitamins in when feeding.
