PostSubject: blood donors    Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:28 pm

This is going to probably sound a little strange...

The vet mentioned some of the options included debulking his tumor or trying to do a biopsy. The issue is that the tumor is bleeding regularly and the vet would like to have some blood donors lined up. In order to do blood tests they took the maximum amount of blood allowable... which means he's already short & needs time to rebuild. But we're not sure if he has time... The only way to speed up this process is blood donors. Which for a glider, means lining up at least 4 separate donors as they don't have much blood to offer...

Are there any other people who have had their gliders in with donor blood?

Is anyone out there with a healthy glider who may consider offering donor blood?

I'm sorry, I know this seems like a strange request. The breeder we got him from no longer is breeding gliders and I really haven't the faintest idea where to ask about looking for blood donors.

Thanks. Any help is appreciated!!!

Does your vet have a process/procedure that donors would need to follow?
Does it need to be someone in your area?

I have no experience with this, but am very interested to learn more.

I've never heard of this. I'm also curious! If it is safe, I'd try to help out. I would imagine you'd need to be close by though?
