My babies have been acting CRAZY!!! Around 4am, Cocoa was barking (I have NEVER heard her bark before) they were short, fast barks. So, I got out of bed to check it out and try to calm her and when I opened the cage door ,I put my hand up to her and she jumped on my head then started running around me like she was on speed or something! This is the glider that normally chills in the corner of the cage, and perches on my shoulder. So THIS is nuts coming from her! So, just now (about 7am) she started barking again. When I opened the cage door, one of them jumped onto my face, then practically ricocheted back off again. Then 2 of them started running around the top of the cage and even Gizmo was jumpy and not wanting to come to me.... WHAT"S THE DEAL?!?!??!!

Could be the full moon or maybe she is in heat?

Something could have spooked them too. I don't know that anyone knows exactly what barking means besides an obvious form of communication, but one of the reasons for it appears to be to warn the colony of a danger. Could have been any number of reasons.

Yes, I think something maybe spooked them too. I know lots of people say their gliders bark when just trying to get their human's attention (and I'm not discounting that) but I know in my OWN home, it's only when they're spooked. I can tell...and they are right by a window, lots of night walkers in my neighborhood.

Pearl has been barking the last couple of nights only because she doesn't like the family of raccoon outside her window eating the sunflower seeds I put out for the squirrels. My gliders bark to let me know something isn't right inside or outside or they get spooked.

Makes sense... there isn't a view out a window from their cage and the cat wasn't inside, but they could have heard something outside. Can their ears hear pitches that we can't? They were just acting so bizarre... then again, I don't normally see them in the middle of the night to know how wild they may or may not be.

Mine did this to me for a couple of days this week. I discovered that the dog has been sneaking into their room. However, if you notice abnormal behavior, you can always take them for a vet check to make sure.

How long have you had them? They do act differently during the full moon than they do the rest of the time. But, you have to know their behavior to know if this is correct or not.

Mine don't seem to have any set pattern for when they bark or act crazy, it could be phases of the moon or noise from outside or being in heat or just talking to each other or to me for some reason or another. I find sometimes if one glider is out in the cage and the rest are in the pouch, the one barks and I get the feeling it's a "come out and play with me!" kind of thing. Only one time I can think of that I actually figured out what all the barking was about. I had two cages going absolutely nuts barking and all the gliders in the room were stock still. I finally saw what the gliders were looking at: a giant house centipede on the wall! I killed it for them (okay, and for me! Hate those things) and they went about their normal business.
