I went to the cage and Kadi is just laying on the bottom of the cage. she has never let me pick her up in the 4 years i have had her ,but i got her with a glove she crabbed a little but just gave up. she WONT move her legs or anything. she is breathing really shallow and is very weak. i can hold her on her back or just lay her down and she wont walk off or anything. i have called val and i realize i need to go to the vet and i will be taking her as soon as they open, but what can i do for her now? how often does she need to drink water? she wont move so she wont be getting up for anything.

i also saw this on this site.. this is exactly how she is :(

•Laying flat - on belly with limbs splayed out to the side. You might find them on the floor of the cage this way, or find that they move to this position while in your watchful care. This usually occurs within hours of passing.

Well, you know what you have to do. You HAVE TO get her to a vet ASAP or you have to be prepared to live with what happens overnight if you do not. Please don't make yourself wonder forever if something could have been done for her.

I posted some emergency numbers in your thread on GG. We have spoken on the phone. You are not going to get any better advice from anyone else.

We all wish you the best, and we all wish you would get on out the door and head to the vet right now.

I understand that. I called and they said that they wont see her. How can I make her comfortable?

This is why you were told to just GO. Show up with the sick animal and the consult number and a very kind disposition and you never know what kind of help you might get. Better to try than to beat yourself up for the rest of your life for doing nothing.

Since you are not going to go get her some help, then she will likely pass slowly- and maybe painfully. Keep her warm and don't let her where she might fall.

Other than that - get off the computer and spend her last moments with HER rather than with all of us. ONLY a VET can help her now. Keeping her pain free and from any suffering is the work of a licensed veterinarian. No one on the computer can help her.

And, there is always the possibility that there is some treatment that could be done. You won't know if you don't go.

I have a hard time believing that a vet, with an emergency situation on their hands, will turn away any animal. That said...if it were me? I'd go anyway and walk in their door. They won't turn you down there.

I seriously do not appreciate all your negativity and your holier than thou attitude. I have came here for support and ideas of how I can make her comfortable and you want to act like I have not done anything or wont do anything. I have taken care of my gliders longer than most and delt with situations with kadi that most people would have gotten rid of her. I may not have the money some of you do and I probably shouldn't have gotten gliders when I was 18 years old, but I'm 24 now and have kept them healthy until now and I think that is saying a lot. I have taken them to the vet twice this month and got them a new cage & wheel. I don't have a even have a job right now. I love them very much. I have been holding kadi since 8pm today trying to offer food and water every so often. I'm not here trying to spend time with you guys like I said I need some {Donut} advice. I'm scared and just needed some support but all you can say is I'm a bad person and my glider will die a slow death. Just great of you! I hope you don't think you have helped me any. I think you have been very rude and insensitive to my situation . I assume you will block me from your site and if so then so be it. I dont need to be put down by anyone. So don't leave me any more crappy {acorn} replies. I have seen enough.

No one has said you're a bad person. I don't recall reading that. However, you have to understand that when you call someone for advice, and they give it, it's the best they can do for you unless you're willing to take the next step. At this point, other than saying that you absolutely need to take your glider in to the vet, we can't do a thing. There are two options here. We could sugar coat things, so you have NO idea what to expect, or we could just be honest with you, which is what we've done. For your glider to live, she needs a vet. For her to be comfortable, she needs a vet. If you can do neither of those, then she will be in pain. It's sad, but it's true. We're simply being honest.

I realize she is prob going to die in the next few hours, but with Val stating that since I'm NOT going to do this or that. Pure rude and un-called for. I am not a fool. I see she is VERY sick. I don't know what happened and I dont expect anyone on here to tell me. Just maybe if someone has had this situation. I'm on edge right now and I just feel that her posts are very rude. That's all. I asked how to make her comfortable and I get that reply above. Not right.

That's just it...Val HAS had this. MANY times over. She sees this day in and day out. She is the person we tell people to call when they see their gliders having these symptoms. She is honest and forthright. If you're looking for cuddles, you're barking up the wrong tree. I don't say that to be rude, I say that because when someone calls her for advice on what to do, she expects that they will go with what she suggests. This little one needs a vet. She's in pain and is suffering without it. That's a difficult thing for many of us to stomach and we often wonder why people call for advice if they aren't going to take it. Try to take a step back and look at it from our perspective, as well.

I wish we could tell you how you could make her comfortable without getting her to the vet, but we can't. There is no other answer to that question.

I would take her if there was one to take her to. The vet she suggested has been closed down for awhile now. I called many places and they said they cant help. But its whatever. I'm doing all I can right now. Won't be barking up anyones tree on this site again.

They can NOT refuse to see you....if it were me I would be in their waiting room waiting to be seen. I work in a vets office and if anything walked in the door and it was in need we would do our best to try to save it. They may say up front they do not see them but they will TRY to help her.

Guys, she has been told over and over to just go. She has this information. She was not going to go to the vet. No matter how many times we said it.

Lacy, if you think I was rude, then you need to get out more. (see, THAT is rude). Honestly, I was just honest with you. Step back and look at it this way: You call me repeatedly about your other glider, but still have not gotten all the testing done on that one that I suggested. You have been dealing with a situation with Nibbler for a bit now and still have not taken the initiative to find an emergency 24-hour vet within driving distance. You have not yet just walked into an emergency clinic instead of calling. You called me last night and I told you that you had to get her to a vet or things would be very bad. Instead of that, you started a thread on GG and one here asking for help. From where we sit, you didn't really want advice on what is best for KADI, you wanted advice on how to make this all easier for YOU. I'll admit, that irritates me. So, I'll admit, I was short with you. I feel that all my advice falls on deaf ears with you. Had you mentioned to me even once about the financial issues, I would have told you how to get some help there as well.
Even now that she has passed, you reported on GG that you will not be getting a necropsy. Again, we are thinking what is best for NIBBLER here, as Kadi could have passed from something contagious. There could be answers with KADI that could help NIBBLER.

So, despite how rude you think I am, I am going to let you know that the Necropsy effort can and will help you with the costs of such testing. And, since you are in Texas, you have a few options that others don't have. I'd be more than happy to discuss them with you (and I would do so without bringing up your behavior here today).

THIS BOARD is a medical forum. We will not ever - no matter the situation - EVER allow a situation on this board to go in the direction of what is best for the owner instead of the glider. So, if we have to sound like a broken record, then we will.

Nibbler is still in some distress, so please take the time to find an emergency vet within driving distance and begin making plans for an emergency situation to occur. You do not live in a vaccuum. You live in Texas where there is a vast network of glider owners and where vets in your area went to school with Dr. Walsh. So, there IS help available to you if you are willing to do your part.
Look into care credit and at other vet funds to help you with costs if that is the issue. Please make plans now for Nibbler's sake.

I'm going to understand that you are upset about Kadi's situation and her eventual passing (which is exactly how I said it would be, BTW) and not hold all this other stuff against you. No one was rude to you here. The REALITY was that she would pass slowly and possibly painfully - and that did not have to be the case. That you did not like to hear that did not make it inaccurate or rude. *I* have been there. *I* have sat in your situation many times. *I* told you the truth. This situation could have played out differently for her, so yes, it was that way BECAUSE you would not follow the advice given. You have to own that, and if you are angry that I have the guts to say it, then you are free to be angry with me. I can take it and won't even hold it against you.

The rapidity with which Kadi went downhill is NOT unusual. Nothing about her situation was unusual. You told me on the phone that your vet visits were not for Kadi, so it is inaccurate to say that she had been seen twice this month. Your vet visits recently had been for Nibbler. Kadi had not had any testing. She "seemed" fine, so she had not had a wellness check. This is a very painful way to learn the importance of full testing and wellness checks and I am very sorry for your loss. Please don't let it be in vain. Necropsy testing will give you some answers and true closure and may make a difference for Nibbler - you might even get answers as to why she is having so many issues as well right now.
